Help!
So I want to shirr a few outfits and I have 2 sewing machines but neither quite do the job. I have a singer futura- it doesn't put much gather at all- i looked at prudent baby's tute on it and it helped a little but still did not quite work right. I have a bernina record 830 and it gathers beautifully but there is no elasticity in the garment once I am done.
If you have any tips for me to try- i would love to hear them.

did you hand-wind the elastic thread on your bobbin??
ReplyDeleteDid you steam the shirring? That's what gathers it up. Once you've finished with the sewing and tied the ends together, use the steam setting on your iron and hold closely but not actually on the elastic thread on the inside of the garment. The threads gather up nicely.

I now this is kind of late, but for future reference you can always zig zag stitch over elastic thread (On the wrong side of the fabric). My machine won't shir either, so frustrating!
